Open Heart Century.

Open Heart Century

16 Spencer Avenue
Whalley Range
Manchester M16 0AW

Preview evening June 20th 7pm +
June 21st (all day)

Amy Wilson and Nick James are two artists who, having left Coventry to find a new home in Manchester, have formed an ongoing art project together. Both artists have entered the project with firmly different ideas and themes, producing together in a variety of different media work that forms a disparate creative dialogue.

Next throw into the mix 100 invitations, secreted in various parts of the city, asking for the recipient to return a postcard with a contribution for the next stage of the artists’ work.
Open Heart Century is a two-day exhibition representing the first phase in the project strategy, with further invites to be made and exhibitions to be held. The intention is to form a community of ideas, directed by the collaborations and interpreted and explored within the work being created and discovering surprises in the unexpected.

We interrupt all programs.

Attention Chemical Factory Readers:

We must interrupt your regularly scheduled program. Do not adjust your screen, there have been modifications made to shake up your viewing habits. Only time will tell if these changes will be met with your approval...

Painter Megan Chapman featured at Blue Moon Gallery, Hot Springs Arkansas

"Evidence of the Disappearance" an exhibit of abstract, oil and mixed media paintings by Fayetteville artist, Megan Chapman will be featured for two months beginning June 6 – July at the Blue Moon Gallery in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The gallery is located at 718 Central Avenue in the downtown Historic Arts District.

The opening reception will be held June 6th from 5-9pm, during first Friday gallery walk. The artist will be present. This exhibit includes thirty two new paintings never before exhibited.

Chapman says... When I paint I listen to music on my headphones, and the music is always a constant source of inspiration and helps me to dive into the work and away from this world; the paintings that result are the only "evidence" of this time spent "away."

"Gold seems to feature prominently in this body of work as does the diamond/ovoid shape. The shape that was once a lotus petal has now broken away to float, hover, overlap, and pulse on the diagonal in these works. A warm palette of rusts, orange oxides, the usual suspects, and my favorite deep blue tie many of the pieces together. A cool aqua brings a punch and signals the spring and the winter (hoping for the spring) in which these paintings were created. Fine lines connect some of the elements, holding and grounding them to the paintings. I see a rough, almost acidic texture in some of the diamond shapes and backgrounds. Elements bubble up and through, while surface layers hide and conceal yet still allow for a peek."

And the walls ran red around me with warm arterial spray

I am 'real' - and the shit is immense;
So I took to thinking about that and what
convoluted piss is spewed forth in an attempt
to create the illusion of 'artistic merit'

yeah, I'm pissed, viscerally so, with a renewed
'angry' that rises within.

Isn't it hard enough to waste your life dealing
with 'day to day' shite for the money you need to
substitute your living expenses only after working
Christ knows how many hours in a piss factory to
have that money taken off you by some fat cunt(s).

If your anything to do with any financial institution
(and I spread that net wide) - kill yourself.

Listen to Bill;

and seriously, do the whole world a fucking favour and
kill yourself now.

That goes for bailiffs, debt collectors and anybody who
works in a bank in any situation. Kill yourself.

You're a disease with legs.

Ok, I'm finished, as you where.

the final enriching layer of disquiet.

well i finally got my refusal from the gallery
this morning, the usual..
so far this year has been a bit shit, even by
my dwindling standards.

i had already made my decisions anyway, i was
just using this as confirmation that it was the
right one.. (should've trusted my instincts)

i could keep entering open exhibitions and sending
stuff off to galleries, but really, there isn't much
point, occasionally i get a painting into an exhibition,
but, so what? i've been doing that for years now.
i never seem to progress from that.
you can't say i didn't try, i have my name on several
past shows.

as for selling, i have sold a few, but as my paintings
are already under priced, it's just an insult when i have
to take even less... i needed the money.. shame on me.

anyway, the garden is overgrown & the house is a mess,
time to stop playing & attend to real matters..

Wednesday; (day away from Hades)

With a Van Gogh inspired beard I stomped
the two miles to the farmers rape seed field..

I have a camera again, thanks to my Dad who thought I may
get more productive use from it than he..

So I decided a good test would be the beautiful yellow rape seed
field..

I am learning..

I have several paintings on the go..
